Gradall Forklift Parts - During the period when WWII created a shortage of workers, the famous Gradall excavator was born in the 1940s as the creation of two brothers Koop and Ray Ferwerda. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted labor force because of the war. As partners in their Cleveland, Ohio construction business referred to as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the available laborers to be able to perform the delicate job of grading and finishing on their highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers decided to build a machine which would save their company by making the slope grading task less manual, easier and more efficient.
The first excavator prototype consisted of a device with two industrial beams on a rotating platform fixed to a second-hand truck. There was a telescopic cylinder that was utilized to move the beams back and forth. This enabled the fixed blade at the far end of the beams to push or pull the dirt. Soon enhancing the first design, the brothers made a triangular boom so as to add more strength. As well, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom turn 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was positioned at the back of the boom, powering a long push rod to enable the equipment to be equipped with either a bucket or a blade attachment.
Gradall introduced in the year 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most ground-breaking adjustment in their machinery since their invention. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics enabled the Gradall excavator to deliver high productivity and comparable power to the more traditional excavators. The XL Series put an end to the initial Gradall equipment power drawn from low pressure hydraulics and gear pumps. These conventional systems successfully handled grading and finishing work but had a hard time competing for high productivity tasks.
The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a significant increase in their digging and lifting ability. These versions were made together with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system that showed immense improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was also developed with a load-sensing capability. Conventional excavators make use of an operator so as to choose a working-mode; where the Gradall system could automatically adjust the hydraulic power for the task at hand. This makes the operator's overall work easier and also conserves fuel at the same time.
As soon as their XL Series hydraulics became available, Gradall was essentially thrust into the highly competitive market of equipment meant to deal with demolition, pavement removal, excavating and various industrial tasks. Marketability was further improved with their telescoping boom because of its exclusive ability to better position attachments and to work in low overhead areas.
